Francoverload

The "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" trailer hit the web and it has me torn. I've always had a hard time taking James Franco seriously and his recent focus on comedy hasn't helped. And then his turning into America's favorite crackpot and becoming overexposed for it made matters worse. If he wasn't in this, I might have more faith in this. I'm pretty sure the shot of the ape looming over the sleeping kids is kind of ripped off from the book Jurassic Park (or Lost World) but it's an eerie shot. And while I'm not usually a fan of CGI actors, I think it could work here.

Still, if there was a summer blockbuster than I could see bombing, it might be this one although they were wise to plant it on an August 5th release date so it's not really up against the heavy hitters.

But if you want to talk about a bad trailer, how about "Abduction". Interesting cast and I have nothing against Taylor Lautner but his acting in this is beyond wooden. I really hope he's still taking acting classes/saving his money. The one thing I can say to hold out hope for the Team Jacobians is that it seems like he's "an asset" and might have some special powers or something so perhaps the wooden acting was a choice. I don't know. I'm not seeing Taylor making the leap into movie stardom unless his tween fans are ridiculously loyal (and when are they ever?)
